Strategies

A great way to beat man covereage is to combine motion and routes from the Gun Flip Trips formation from the Arizona playbook. Practically any play from this formation will beat man coverage if setup properly.

For this example we'll use Gun Flip Trips :: Deep Fork

Setup:

  • 1. Put the on any route to cancel his auto motion.
  • 2. Block (LB)
  • 3. Motion (A) to the left
  • 4. Hike the ball immediately after you send (A) in motion.
As soon as you motion (A) to the left the cornerback on (X) will slide to the left of the receiver. This gives you an easy quick pass to (X). This only works against man to man. If the cornerback does not slide you know the defense is in zone. This will work in some other formations but not all.
